Mercedes-Benz 280 SL

In the 60's, Mercedes-Benz wanted to design a new model to replace the legendary 300 SL sports, better known as "Gull Wing".In March 1963, the German brand unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz 230 SL. A sport of straight lines and modern design, which was to spread the hardtop that could be removed, turning into a legitimate convertible. Another option would be to use a manual canvas hood.In 1967, Mercedes-Benz launches SL 250 version with 150 hp, which had 2 kgfm more that the previous release, totaling in 22 kgfm. This version was briefly on the market and was soon replaced by the 280 SL had a new engine.SL 280 version came to market with a new 2.8-liter engine, six-cylinder with direct fuel injection, which yielded 170 hp and 24 lb.-ft.. There were three options exchange, starting with the manual of 4 or 5-speed and 3 speed automatic. One item that we can not comment on the 230, 250 and 280 is the nickname "Pagoda" that these models received at the time. The justification of this name is in the hardtop has a small sink in the middle and this detail is similar to the roofs of buildings they call Chinese pagodas.
